DOVES of Gateway is much more than a domestic violence shelter

We offer a helpline, case management, counseling, assistance in finding housing and legal advocacy.

DOVES of Gateway, An Equal Opportunity Employer, has an opening for the following full position for immediate hire. Position will provide direct services to victims of domestic violence to ensure that their rights are recognized and addressed according to Kentucky’ Crime Victims Bill of Rights (KRS 421.500), and federal mandates according to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) within a trauma informed care model. Victim Advocate (Full-Time Position)
Duties
- Performs admission paperwork and reviews shelter rules with new residents.
- Provides direct services to shelter residents, including facilitation of group meetings and individual counseling, case plans, and safety plans.
- Answers shelter phone lines.
- Answers Crisis Hotline
- Assures that resident records are in order, correctly documented and maintained.
- Advocates for residents with other entities to ensure residents’ rights are protected.
- Makes referrals to resource providers.
- Provides transportation for residents. Pick up and document donations.
- Maintains upkeep on appliances and shelter property. Makes appropriate referrals for shelter needs.
- Assists victims in completing emergency protective order petitions
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field; previous experience with victims preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- An ability to use good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and compassion.
- Good interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written skills.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Must be willing to submit to Background Check and Drug Screening.
- Must have a Kentucky driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
- Strong leadership skills
- Must be certified in first aid every three years and blood-borne pathogens yearly.
- Must complete domestic violence certification within one year of hire.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours.
