We are here for you during an Emergency

If things ever get so bad you have to flee your home for your own safety, call the crisis line. We’ll find you a place to stay — at our 28-bed emergency shelter or another safe place. DOVES staff are available 24/7 to assist you in meeting your needs.

DOVES of Gateway, An Equal Opportunity Employer, has immediate openings for part-time victim advocate positions. Victim Advocates will provide direct services to victims of domestic violence to ensure that their rights are recognized and addressed according to Kentucky’ Crime Victims Bill of Rights (KRS 421.500), and federal mandates according to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) within a trauma informed care model.

The position will provide direct services to victims of domestic violence to ensure that their rights are recognized and addressed according to Kentucky’ Crime Victims Bill of Rights (KRS 421.500), and federal mandates according to the Victims of Crime Act within a trauma informed care model.

Part-Time (Weekends/Second Shift)

Duties

Performs admission paperwork and reviews shelter rules with new residents.
Provides direct services to shelter residents, including facilitation of group meetings and individual counseling, case plans, and safety plans.
Answers shelter phone lines.
Answers Crisis Hotline
Assures that resident records are in order, correctly documented and maintained.
Advocates for residents with other entities to ensure residents’ rights are protected.
Makes referrals to resource providers.
Provides transportation for residents. Pick up and document donations.
Maintains upkeep on appliances and shelter property. Makes appropriate referrals for shelter needs.
Assists victims in completing emergency protective order petitions when courthouse is closed and/or Court Advocate is out of shelter.
Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred but not required. Individuals found proficient to perform duties with high school diploma or previous experience with victims will be considered.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
An ability to use good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and compassion.
Good interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written skills.
Knowledge of community resources.
Must be willing to submit to Background Check and Drug Screening.
Must have a Kentucky driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
Strong leadership skills
Must be certified in first aid every three years and blood-borne pathogens yearly.
Will complete required Continuing Education Hours, (CEU)
Must be willing to work flexible hours.
