Part-Time Victim Advocate

DOVES of Gateway, An Equal Opportunity Employer, has an opening a part-time victim advocate for immediate hire. The position will provide direct services to victims of domestic violence. 

Part-Time (Weekends / Overnights)

Duties:

  • Performs admission paperwork and reviews shelter guidelines with new residents.
  • Provides direct services to shelter residents, including facilitation of group meetings case plans, and safety plans.
  • Answers shelter phone lines.
  • Answers Crisis Hotline
  • Assures that resident records are in order, correctly documented and maintained.
  • Advocates for residents with other entities to ensure residents’ rights are protected.
  • Makes referrals to resource providers.
  • Provides transportation for residents. Pick up and document donations.
  • Maintains upkeep on appliances and shelter property. Makes appropriate referrals for shelter needs.
  • Assists victims in filling Emergency Protective Order/Temporary Interpersonal Protective Order (TIPO) petitions after hours when courthouse is closed.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • An ability to use good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and compassion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Must be willing to submit for background check and drug screening.
  • Must have a Kentucky driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must be certified in first aid every three years and blood-borne pathogens yearly.
  • Will complete required Continuing Education Hours (CEU)
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours

Salary: $17.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift (8a-4p, 4p-12a, 12a-8a)
  • Holidays

Full-Time Victim Advocate/Case Manager

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake assessments, complete admission paperwork, and orient new survivors to the shelter.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized case management and safety plans in partnership with survivors.
  • Facilitate support groups.
  • Answer shelter phone lines and respond to the crisis hotline, providing crisis intervention and resource information.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential survivor records, including case notes, and service documentation.
  • This position requires precise attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation, completion of protection order petitions, compliance with reporting requirements, and trauma-informed care for survivors.
  • Prepare and submit required quarterly program reports to ensure compliance with program and funder requirements.
  • Advocate for survivors with external agencies (legal, medical, housing, employment, etc.) to ensure their rights and needs are addressed.
  • Connect survivors with appropriate community resources and coordinate referrals to support long-term stability.
  • Provide transportation for survivors when necessary.
  • Monitor shelter facilities for safety and upkeep.
  • Assist survivors in completing and filing Emergency Protective Orders (EPOs)/Temporary Interpersonal Protection Orders, (TIPO) when the courthouse is closed and/or the Court Advocate is unavailable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related human services field.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management, crisis intervention, or victim advocacy preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and practice trauma-informed, survivor centered support.
  • A high level of self-awareness, paired with sensitivity, professionalism, and compassion, in working with survivors of domestic violence
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, including documentation and reporting.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to develop referral networks to support survivors needs effectively.
  • Valid Kentucky driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Completion of Certified Domestic Violence Advocate training within one year of hire.
  • Current certifications in First Aid (every three years) and Bloodborne Pathogens (annually).
  • Complete all required yearly 12 hours of continued education training hours.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • This position reports to the Executive Director.

Job Title: Victim Advocate/Case Manager
Status: Full-Time (40 hours weekly) 4pm-12am Monday-Friday
Job Summary:

The Victim Advocate/Case Manager will provide comprehensive support to survivors of domestic violence, facilitating their access to resources and services while ensuring a survivor-centered and trauma-informed approach. This role requires a deep understanding of the challenges faced by survivors, strong advocacy skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various community agencies.
