Be an Ally

Create a safe space for survivors.

Is a friend or family member being abused? Your help and support may be crucial to their well-being. Make sure they have our 24/7 Crisis Line number: 1-800-221-4361

Victims of abuse need someone who will listen without judgment, helping them feel less alone. Speaking up about abuse takes great strength, so focus on creating a supportive, trusting atmosphere.

Let them make their own decision about whether to leave or stay in the situation. Offer support, whatever they decide. Remember, leaving an abusive partner can be very dangerous, so you should always prioritize the victim’s safety.

Educate yourself about resources available to someone suffering abuse. Know the signs. Domestic violence is more than hitting. It is a pattern of abusive behavior used to threaten, frighten, injure and control another person.

Help is available through our Crisis Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

DOVES of Gateway provides services to Rowan, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Bath Counties.

There are 15 shelters statewide where abused women, men or children can go for help.

You Could be Someone's Lifeline

Educate yourself and others about the problem of domestic violence — even if you do not personally know someone affected by it.

DOVES advocates are available for training, educational and informational sessions regarding domestic abuse and the services we offer. If your agency, business, church, club or other organization would like to support our mission at the community level, we would love to partner with you!

Events

Annual Auction

Each October, to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, DOVES hosts our annual online auction fundraiser. Thanks to national, state and local partners who donate items for our auction, there is a variety of items available to bid on — both you and our clients win! If you have items to donate, please email info@dovesofgateway.org.

All proceeds of this event are used to directly help the survivors of intimate partner violence and their children.

Shop and Share

Each February, DOVES participates in a community event called SHOP and SHARE. People can SHOP for what they need and SHARE an item that will be given to their local intimate partner violence shelter and program.

All Kroger stores throughout Kentucky participate. Select Food City, Super Dollar, and some IGA and Save-A-Lot locations also participate.

Practicum

Students working toward degrees in human services fields can partner with DOVES to fulfill practicum requirements. Students who need 100 or more hours may contact our practicum supervisor, Sienna O’Neal MSW, for an interview. Email soneal@dovesofgateway.org or call 606-784-6880.

Up to three practicum students per semester will be selected.
